The official name of the airport is M. R. Štefánik Airportin honour of one of the most important personalities of Slovak history. However, for easier international communication and reservations, a unique IATA code is used worldwide BTS.
In 2024, it passed through the airport gates 1,948,008 passengers. This figure represents an increase of 7 % compared to the previous year and is also the 5th highest number of passengers handled in the airport's history. The busiest routes are flights to destinations such as Antalya, London and Milan.

Schwechat Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe and the number of passengers is growing every year.
